Speaker: Leonidas Alexopoulos, Founder of Protavio Leonidas Alexopoulos is an associate professor at the National Technical University of Athens, director of the Systems Bioengineering Group, and a biotech entrepreneur. He studied at Duke, MIT, and Harvard Medical School. His research combines mathematical modeling of biological systems with novel experimental technologies for early drug and biomarker discovery and has received several awards. He co-founded Protavio, a successful biomarker discovery-to-production biotech startup that operates with a lean startup model and brings a novel multiplexing technology to pharmaceutical and tobacco industries. He is a member of Hellenic Biocluster and MIT EF Greece and his vision is to empower translational research from academia to entrepreneurship.

George Petrocheilos is a Managing Partner at Nexus Management, our venture capital strategy, which he co-founded in 2016. He makes investments in early-stage biomedical technology companies founded by world-renowned scientist-entrepreneurs. He currently serves on the Boards of Spiral Therapeutics, MindX, Sisu Global Health, Inc., Ashvattha Therapeutics, and WindMIL Therapeutics. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the family-owned PETKA S.A., a construction & development company headquartered in Athens, Greece. George currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Kennedy Krieger Institute, the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Johns Hopkins Center for Financial Economics. He also serves on the Investment Advisory Committee of the Halcyon Incubator in Washington D.C. and the MIT Enterprise Forum. George’s honors include Baltimore Business Journal’s 2019 ‘Tech 10’ leaders in Maryland, BBJ’s 2013 “40 Under 40 Business Leaders” and The Hill’s 2013 “Washington D.C. Rising Stars”, among others. George earned a B.A. degree in Financial Economics from the Johns Hopkins University. |
